Shannon Necklace in Emerald

A brilliant emerald and goldstone glass cabochon is the star of this romantic pendant necklace.

We were beside ourselves with joy when we discovered four colors of these cabochons wrapped in their original tissue paper, sealed with an orange sakura blossom label.

This distinctive label revealed their identity as Cherry Brand glass which was made in Osaka, Japan during the post-war American occupation between 1945 and 1952. During this time, Cherry Brand cabochons were produced by Japanese rice farmers who were moonlighting as button artisans.

The Americans, recognizing the surprising talents of these farming button makers, commissioned them to produce a variety of beads and cabochons similar to the ones produced by Czech glass artisans in the 1920s and 1930s. For this reason, the cabochons produced in post-war Japan are remarkably similar to their older Czech glass counterparts.

In this necklace, the glass pendant hangs from an authentic antique metal button. Each antique button is a one and only, chosen just for you, and so will not be identical to the image.

  • One small antique metal button, circa 1880-1900
