Blue Confetti Earrings

Blue Confetti Earrings

The vintage blue confetti ovals featured in these earrings exemplify the talents of mid-century German glassmakers.

Bohemian glassmakers were the first to develop methods for press-molding glass buttons in the early nineteenth century. They began with solid colored glass, and then, as their skills grew, started producing multi-colored stones mimicking gems like opals and tortoiseshells. They melted canes of colored glass over a lampworking flame, blended in bits of silver foil, and then hand-pressed the mixture into molds.

We love Czech glass and are enthralled by the centuries-old manufacturing processes used to create these special glass buttons. So a few years back we took a pilgrimage trip to visit the few remaining Czech button factories. Read about this incredible art and our Bohemian adventure on A Passion for Czech Glass on our Buttonology Blog.
