This limited edition vintage fabric bag is the collaborative brainchild of retired medical doctor Carol Ridenour and our founder Susan Davis.
When Carol retired from medicine, she decided to pursue her creative passion for sewing. She founded a company called Phoebe Rose and started making tote bags from gorgeous upholstery and vintage decorative textiles.
Last fall, Susan Davis, a perennial collector, visited Carol's light-filled forest studio and shared the fabric collection she's accumulated over decades of hunting for antique buttons. This bag features a sophisticated vintage kettle cloth cotton with an unexpected combination of Asian motifs rendered in a folkloric style from Susan's collection.
A hallmark of Carol's bags is the exuberant combinations of fabrics she uses. Here she finished the bottom of the bag with a cotton micro-stripe and lined it with a charming but unexpected calico.
Grandmother's Buttons added a removable brooch made from an antique jet glass hatpin top, a brass filigree stamping, and two vintage resin buttons.
There are only six of these bags in existence.
