Folklore Fusion Tote Bag
This limited edition vintage fabric bag is the collaborative brainchild of retired medical doctor Carol Ridenour and our founder Susan Davis.
When Carol retired from medicine she decided to pursue her creative passion for sewing. She founded a company called Phoebe Rose and started making tote bags from gorgeous upholstery and vintage suzanis (decorative tribal textiles from Central Asia).
This fall, Susan Davis, a perennial collector, visited Carol's light-filled forest studio and shared the fabric collection she's accumulated over decades of hunting for antique buttons.
This sophisticated 1960s kettle cloth cotton is an unexpected combination of Asian motifs rendered in a folkloric style. Carol found just the right fabrics to complement it with a sturdy geometric fabric bottom and a delicate calico floral interior.
Susan then added a brooch made from a vintage buckle and a rare large red Czech cabochon depicting a forest motif from the Grandmother's Buttons collection.
