We saved our most beautiful cut steel buttons for this holiday limited edition release with hopes of adding some extra sparkle to your celebrations. This necklace radiates in the extraordinary exuberance of its time with its show-stopping glass, cut steel, and brass opera cloak button.

Known as the Gay Nineties, the 1890s was a progressive and decadent decade akin to the Roaring Twenties. In the button world, Gay Nineties is the collector's term describing the large, ornate cloak buttons that cropped up on the fashion scene during this time and remained popular until WWI.

Opera cloak buttons are characterized by a substantial glass stone encased in an elaborate metal setting. They were used to fasten heavy cloaks that came to epitomize good breeding and high societal standing in the late Victorian era.

We named this necklace after Adelina Patti, the renowned 19th-century opera singer who to this day remains one of the most famous sopranos in history.

In this piece:

  • Brass & cut steel opera cloak button with a green center stone, circa 1890
  • Brass-plated pewter setting cast today in the USA
  • Three-ring brass connector stamped today in the USA in vintage dies
  • Antiqued brass chain
  • Length is 18” with a 4” extender
