Cicada Necklace - Insects
The beautifully formed brass cicada button featured in this necklace was manufactured between 1900 and 1910. Its composition is indicative of an era when the ornate and fluid styles of the Art Nouveau movement lost popularity in favor of simpler Art Deco designs.
Cicadas were popular emblems in both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements as symbols of rebirth and longevity. A Cicada can live to be twenty years years old, which is indeed a long life for an insect.
In this piece:
- Large antique brass cicada button, circa 1900-1910
- Hand wrapped Czech glass and amazonite beads
- Antiqued brass chain
- Length is 20” with a 4” extender
