This necklace features three exquisite midcentury German or Czech jet glass buttons with lovely gold luster detailing. The makers finished the top and bottom buttons by holding them face down on a grinding wheel, creating a smooth mirror-like surface.
German and Czech glass buttons are the most collectible mid-20th-century buttons.
Czech and German button artisans honed their skills for centuries, and then in the early 18th century, they were the first to start pressing hot glass into molds. By the early 20th century, they’d mastered their craft and were exporting exquisitely detailed glass buttons worldwide.
All three buttons in this necklace were hand-pressed in antique molds and manufactured using centuries-old processes. And they all testify to the enduring talents of German and Czech glass artisans, including the few still working today.
