Ashlee Beetle Necklace - Insects
The beetle button on a twisted wire frame featured in this striking necklace has a scandalous story in the button collecting world. In the early 1940s, the Ashlee Button Company acquired some antique button stampings from a shuttered factory which they repurposed and then sold to button collectors and dealers.
Some unscrupulous dealers then sold them as antiques when in fact they contained antique parts but had new construction. It was a true button controversy!
These newly constructed buttons are now eighty years old so we can sell them without fear of scandal.
In this piece:
- Brass buttons circa 1940 made with older parts
- Stamped brass filigree bead cap on handmade 4” tassel
- Antiqued brass and silver-plated chain
- Length is 30”
