These lyrical earrings showcase small brass Victorian-era picture buttons depicting the medieval minstrel Blondel.
Blondel was a minstrel to Richard I of England who was imprisoned by the French on his way home from the Crusades and held for ransom. Blondel located his master by singing a song they composed together beneath the window of various castles until Richard responded.
Motifs for picture buttons were lifted from every possible source, including contemporary illustrations, photographs, and advertising announcements.
