Folklore Tote Bag
This limited edition vintage fabric bag is the collaborative brainchild of retired medical doctor Carol Ridenour and our founder Susan Davis.
When Carol retired from medicine she decided to pursue her creative passion for sewing. She founded a company called Phoebe Rose and started making tote bags from gorgeous upholstery and vintage suzanis (decorative tribal textiles from Central Asia).
This fall, Susan Davis, a perennial collector, visited Carol's light-filled forest studio and shared the fabric collection she's accumulated over decades of hunting for antique buttons.
The fabric used in this bag is vintage cotton with a Pennsylvania Dutch, Amish hex inspired pattern that Susan discovered in an east coast warehouse while button hunting. It reminds her of the curtains in her childhood kitchen and to this day she regrets leaving so much of this special find behind.
Carol complimented the vintage cotton with a sturdy red brocade bottom and a bright, whimsical floral interior. Susan then added a brooch made from a vintage buckle and a red button from the Grandmother's Buttons collection.
