Golden Gods Necklace - Once Upon a Button Limited Edition
Regular price $140.00This fabulous necklace showcases three small Roman-themed Victorian-era brass and cut steel picture buttons. All three were manufactured by Albert Parent et Cie in Paris in the late 19th century and are extraordinarily well made.
The center button in this necklace depicts the Triumvirate Coalition government of ancient Rome. The triumvirate was a political alliance between three powerful men during the days of the Roman Republic.
The button to the left depicts Achilles on a Chariot. In Greek mythology, Achilles was the hero of the Trojan War, the greatest of all the Greek warriors, and the central character of Homer’s Iliad.
The third button showcases Mercury from Roman mythology. Mercury was the Roman God of commerce, messages, travelers, luck, trickery, and thieves; he also guided souls to the underworld.
Motif picture buttons were the most internationally famous style of Victorian-era buttons. Their themes were copied from every possible source, including contemporary illustrations, photographs, and advertising.

This necklace has an uncommonly lovely combination of three styles of brass chain along its length, with each button showcasing a hand-wrapped, faceted pyrite bead.
