This lovely plate is a coveted collectible among vintage pottery enthusiasts. It was manufactured in California by Vernon Kilns between 1931 and 1958.
Vernon Kilns produced artistic and utilitarian pieces in several hand-painted patterns with a wide variety of backstamps. Their pottery is known for being pretty, cheerful, well-made, heavy, and durable, which is why the company offered a 25-year warranty against fading or cracking.
The hand-painted mid-century plaid pattern on this plate is called Homespun. We applied a 19th-century illustration of a colorful beetle in complementary colors.
Our founder, Susan Davis, is a zealous collector of all things old, beautiful and interesting. While button hunting, she often finds other collectibles she cannot bear to leave behind, which is how we came to own a substantial collection of antique and vintage china plates.
This plate will be one of only 4 in the world created with this image.
