This limited edition fabric handbag was handmade in Louisiana by Carol Ridenour, who launched her textile company, called Phoebe Rose, after retiring from her career as a medical doctor.
For this bag, Carol chose a vibrant orange, maroon, and khaki houndstooth upholstery fabric. Houndstooth is a textile pattern characterized by abstract four-pointed shapes named for their resemblance to a dog's tooth.
The oldest known occurrence of houndstooth is the German Cloak, a garment uncovered in a Swedish peat bog in 1920 that dates back to between 360 and 100 BC.
A hallmark of Carol's bags is her unexpected combinations of fabrics. She lined this bag with an exuberant rose floral, which stands in lovely contrast to the more contemporary houndstooth.
We've adorned the bag with a removable brooch centered by a brilliant orange square of hand-molded glass manufactured in mid-century Japan.
