Man In The Moon Ring
The Czech glass button proudly displayed in this whimsical ring depicts a Man On The Moon who is wise and slightly amused. It is a wonderful example of how humans have always anthropomorphized the unattainable mystery of the moon.
The early Greeks, Romans, and Christians assigned the moon a female spirit, like that of the female biology which ebbs and flows with the tides that are controlled by the moon. Early modern Europeans regarded the moon with folkloric humor ascribing the Man In The Moon the personality of a foolish drunkard or ne'er do well.
We love Czech glass and are enthralled by the centuries-old manufacturing processes used to create these special glass buttons. So a few years back we took a pilgrimage trip to visit the few remaining Czech button factories.
