These appealing earrings showcase a rare combination of mid-century West German, Czech, and Soviet glass. Northern Europe produced the most appealing 20th-century buttons and cabochons in our collection.

The button anchoring this design was made in the U.S.S.R. Both the factory that created it and the U.S.S.R. itself are now in history's dustbin. Yet, this lovely button survived and found you.

Above the Soviet button, you'll discover a mid-century West German moonstone and a vintage Czech glass cabochon. Czech and German glass artisans honed their skills for centuries, and then in the early 18th century, they were the first to start pressing hot glass into molds. By the early 20th century, they'd mastered their craft and exported exquisitely detailed glass buttons and cabochons worldwide.

In this piece, from the bottom:

  • Soviet-era green glass buttons made in a long-closed factory in the U.S.S.R.
  • Vintage West German green moonstone glass cabochons, circa 1950
  • Vintage Czech faceted glass cabochon, circa 1950
  • Nickel-free and lead-free brass lever-back ear wires
  • Length is 2 ⅛”
