We recently discovered a long-lost bag of the tiny vintage Czech glass buckles we used in this necklace in our Louisiana design studio. Our founder, Susan Davis, initially found them in a dusty button company attic in New York City’s Garment District twenty years ago.
Susan started collecting buttons and vintage glass over three decades ago and has since amassed an enormous collection now stored in every nook and corner of her design studio. Sometimes pieces, like these adorable buckles, are rediscovered after hiding for decades.
In their day, these doll-sized buckles likely secured narrow fabric women’s belts.
For this necklace, we enhanced the buckle with a tiny vintage West German glass cabochon.
In this piece:
Jet glass buckle, made in Czechoslovakia, circa 1930
Glass cabochon with gold luster & mirror finish top, made in midcentury West Germany
