Sadly, in life, good things often end. We've run out of the cache of vintage West German glass buttons that we discovered at a Five & Dime store in Rayne, Louisiana, last year. However, we’re excited to replace them in this design with something even better.
We discovered two "pretty in pink" vintage West German glass buttons on our spring button hunting trip. One is a pink moonglow with gold accents, and the other is an opaque pink with a quintessentially midcentury modern gold drizzle.
Moonglow glass has an opaque interior, sealed with a clear top, creating a satiny, almost glowing appearance. They were developed by West German button artisans in 1954 and remained popular until the early 1960s.
So we are thrilled to release them in this new version of our new Aurora in Pink necklace. As often happens in our studio, old is now new and beautiful again.
The top button depicting a rose was hand-pressed today in an antique mold in the Czech Republic, using centuries-old processes. It, like the two vintage buttons, testifies to the enduring talents of European glass artisans, including the few still working today.
