We were so thrilled when we discovered the lovely mid-century, amber and Goldstone glass ovals featured in these earrings.
Goldstone glass was invented by the Venetians in the 17th century by heating silica and copper oxide until metallic crystals form.
The process was perfected by Czech and German glass artisans in the early 20th century. Sadly, this trade is uncommon today and goldstone glass is becoming hard to find.
These special glass ovals sport an iridescent mirrored finish which gives them an extra bit of sparkle.
In this piece:
- Mirrored Goldstone glass oval cabochons, made in West Germany, circa 1950
- Brass oval stampings made today in the USA in vintage dies
- Nickel-free & lead-free brass kidney wire closures
- Hangs 1 ⅞”
