The rare matching pair of one-of-a-kind, antique brass buttons we chose for these cufflinks depict a Penny Farthing which was the first bicycle. They’re the perfect gift for dads, who get excited by new technology and love to get out for a bike ride.

Penny Farthings were popular in the 1870s and 1880s and are known for their extra-large, and seemingly impractical, front wheel. The name was inspired by British penny and farthing coins - with pennies being much larger than farthings and therefore the two coins symbolizing the different wheel sizes on the bike.

These buttons might have been developed for use by a cycling club of the era.

In this piece:

  • Antique stamped white metal buttons, circa 1870-80
  • Antiqued brass cuff links
