Sabrina EarringsRegular price $51.00
The adorable amethyst teardrops in these classically stylish earrings were manufactured by a talented glass artist using centuries-old manufacturing processes in mid-century West Germany.
They are lovely examples of Sabrina glass. Sabrina glass, made by infusing color into a translucent stone, was popular in the early 20th century.
German glassmaking is rooted in Bavaria. Influenced by their Czech counterparts in nearby Bohemia, German glassmakers developed exceptional glass button-making skills over the centuries.
When Czechoslovakia became part of the Soviet Union after WWII, the resident German glassmakers fled and set up workshops in their new West German communities. They built a thriving glass button industry, and by 1950 West Germany was considered the glass button capital of the world.
