This necklace makes a statement with three stunning rare and collectible antique buttons.

On top, you’ll find a unique antique oval cufflink with an impressive purple glass stone.

Below the cufflink is a rare hand-painted antique porcelain button featuring delicate pastel purple violets. Most Victorian-era porcelain buttons were hand-painted by well-bred women in their parlors. Painting porcelain was a popular domestic art in the late 19th century, similar to needlework or knitting in the 20th century.

Anchoring the necklace is a rare, medium-sized tinted brass and velvet perfume button. Victorian women used the velvet affixed to the back of these storied buttons to absorb and carry their scent. The result was a hint of perfume that lingered in rooms, like a pleasant wake, wherever the woman went.

We imagine the woman who owned this one dabbed it with a perfume smelling of violets to remind her husband of her enduring love. In the Victorian language, flowers violets symbolize faithfulness.
