This limited edition vintage fabric bag was handmade in Louisiana by Carol Ridenour, who launched her textile company, called Phoebe Rose, after retiring from her career as a medical doctor.
Carol imports exquisite textiles called Suzanis from Uzbekistan. Hand embroidered Suzani textiles are traditionally made by brides for their wedding dowries. It's a craft with centuries of history that has recently experienced a revival. Carol imports both vintage and new Suzanis for her creations.
This bag features a new Suzani showcasing brilliant tulip motifs rendered in chain stitching. A careful examination reveals faint outlines of the hand-drawn pencil lines the maker used to outline the pattern.
A hallmark of Carol's bags is the exuberant combinations of fabrics. Here she combines a vibrant ikat print for the purse lining with a pop of bright pink floral fabric for the interior of the zippered pocket.
Grandmother's Buttons added a removable silver-plated bracelet with three charms including a midcentury West German moonglow glass button, a cinnabar ring, and a carved jade bead.
